The Cause & Giving

Eye Surgeons International is committed to eliminating avoidable blindness worldwide. Our first project is in the sub-Saharan country of Zambia. With your help, we are building a modern Eye Hospital and Teaching campus. This campus will allow us to treat and cure thousands more patients every year and also to train the next generation of local African surgeons, nurses and technicians to spread modern, effective eye care across the region.

  • Over 1 billion people worldwide live with vision impairment – most cases are preventable, treatable or curable. Most of these patients live in poor countries, especially in sub-Saharan Africa

  • In rural Zambia, where we work, access to eyecare is extremely limited, leaving countless children and adults blind from conditions like cataracts, glaucoma, infection, and injuries.

  • The main problem is a lack of trained providers. In sub-Saharan Africa, there is only approximately one effective ophthalmologist/eye surgeon for every million people. In western countries there are approximately 100. Our teaching campus will play a major role in solving this problem.

  • Restoring vision transforms lives – enabling children to learn, parents to work and communities to thrive. Restoring vision is the single best health investment that can be made in a society, according to years of research and experience.
